Battersea Crime Prevention Panel
Last year over 1,400 people attended our Ball in Battersea Park raising £56k towards the work of the Battersea Crime Prevention Panel. The Ball is held annually in Battersea Park in November. We would like to thank Greg Lawson of Quantum Leap Events who are the primary sponsor of the Ball. Aside from ticket sales, funds were raised through a raffle, an auction and The Magic Tree.
The Panel also fund the Battersea Summer Scheme which runs the four day event in Battersea Park, provides 2,000 Away Day places on a variety of challenging, team building and ‘fun days’ away from this area.
It also provided some 40 residential places on outward bound type activities. Places are mainly for the disadvantaged young people living in Battersea and Balham to occupy them and to divert them from becoming victims of crime.
The Panel continues to work closely with the Battersea Early Intervention Team (BEIT) across the Battersea Estates and Junior Youth Improvement Programme (JYIP) in four local primary schools where crime rates and the deprivation level are the highest in the borough of Wandsworth.
The aim is to identify young people at risk at an early stage who have offended or are at risk of offending or entering the Criminal Justice system through anti-social behaviour and focus projects on these youths to steer them away from crime and the temptations of anti-social behaviour.
Sponsorship of local projects on housing estates throughout the year, including:
- After-school clubs embracing various sports including football, athletics and swimming in association with teaching students from Roehampton University.
Funding the making of DVD’s by young people focussing on anti knives, shoplifting, dog ownership and management, graffiti, gangs and general anti-social behaviour.
- It also funded outreach workers to work with young at risk youths on the North Battersea Estates.
The provision of over 50 Alertboxes in shops with one member of staff in Northcote Ward where shoplifting and the threat to staff is high.
- Financial support to small clubs and sports teams which support young people on local housing estates
Funding a variety of initiatives focussed on young people in Battersea.
